MURTUZA QASIM AHMADLI

Murtuza Ahmadli was born on 4 March 1906. In 1930, he graduated from Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Faculty of Pedagogy, Department of Nature. In 1948, he obtained a ScD degree and was made a professor.

From 1941 to 1979, he spent at Baku State University, chairing the Department of Analytical Chemistry. He was the recipient of “Red Labor Flag” Order and the title “Merited Scientist”.

His major research areas included the use of organic reagents in analytical chemistry. He laid the foundations of photometric analysis in Azerbaijan.

He synthesized new organic reagents and used them for defining inorganic compounds, and researched into ways of increasing analytical potential of reagents.

Murtuza Ahmadli proved that sensitive and selective analytical indicators considerably increase during the use of compound triple systems.

He also researched into extraction potential of “inorganic ion-organic reagent-amine” systems, achieving vital theoretical and practical results.

He contributed greatly to the development of analytical chemistry in Azerbaijan through building contacts with leading research centers as well as academicians and outstanding scientists in the former USSR, including N.N. Semenov, I.P. Alimarin, Y.A. Zolotov, I.V. Tananayev, A.K. Babko, I.M. Korenman and N.S. Poluetkov.

He published over 400 papers, and supervised 18 PhD and ScD students.
