PASHA HABIB RUSTAMOV
Pasha Rustamov was born on 20 May 1920. In 1934-1937, he studied at Shusha Pedagogical School, Faculty of Workers. In 1937, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating in 1941. In 1941-1942, he worked as a teacher at Shusha Children`s Tuberculosis Sanatorium. He spent from 1942 to 1945 at the front. After the Great Patriotic War he served as head of the education department at Shusha city secondary school No 1 from 1945 to 1948, then headed Shusha district enlightenment department and worked as a chemistry teacher at Shusha Pedagogical School from 1948 to 1952. In 1953, Pasha Rustamov started his postgraduate study at the Institute of Chemistry, the Academy of Sciences. He did his thesis at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Rostov State University. In 1957, he defended a PhD thesis, obtaining a ScD degree in 1967. In 1968, he was made a professor of inorganic chemistry. Pasha Rustamov was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences in 1983. The same year he was elected chair of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, BSU. He held this position until 1986. From 1986-1997, he served as a professor at this department.
Pasha Rustamov`s research interests laid in physical and chemical qualities of liquid sulfate systems, scientific fundamentals of complex processing of well water, chemistry of rare soil elements, and synthesis and the use of inorganic semiconductors in industry. Together with his employees, he published more than 600 papers, including 14 monographs.
He was the holder of 51 authorship certificates. He supervised 50 PhD and 10 ScD students to completion.
He was the recipient of a number of medals and decorations, including “Order of Great Patriotic War 1st degree”, Academician Kurnakov Medal, and a bronze medal of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition.
