IDRIS MAJID AHMADOV
Idris Ahmadov was born on 1 October 1938. In 1956, he entered Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating in 1961. The same year he embarked on postgraduate studies in organic chemistry at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, Academy of Sciences. In 1966, he defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1985. In 1986, he became a professor. He spent from 1961 to 1968 at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes as a postgraduate student, and a junior and senior research fellow. From 1968 to 1993, Idris Ahmadov served as a senior research fellow and laboratory head at the Institute of Polymer Materials. He spent from 1993 to 2007 in Turkey, where he held professorship at Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He has been a professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, BSU, since 2007. His research interests lie in optically active and pyrrol compounds. Idris Ahmadov has published 300 papers, including 80 in leading European periodicals. He has supervised seven PhD and five ScD students to completion. Idris Ahmadov was deputy chairman of the Expert Council on Chemistry, Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Organic Chemistry Problem Council, Research Organization and Coordination Commission, ANAS.
