Qasim Huseynov was born on 25 May 1940. In 1958, he entered  Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating with honors in 1963.

The same year he started his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Petrochemical Processes, Academy of Sciences. In 1968, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree and professorship in 1991.

He spent from 1966 to 1977 at ANAS Institute of Chemistry of Admixtures, where his appointments included a junior research fellow, senior engineer, deputy laboratory head and senior research fellow. In 1977, he embarked on teaching activity at Nakhchivan State Pedagogical Institute, where he was employed as a senior teacher, associate professor and head of the Department of Chemistry.

From 1989 to 1996, he worked as rector of Nakhchivan State Pedagogical Institute.

In 1996, he became a professor at the Department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology, BSU, and has been director of Young Talents Lyceum under the university since 2007.

His major research areas include the methods of producing new organic substances, and their study as admixture, inhibitor and analytical reagents. Qasim Huseynov has published 197 papers in local and foreign periodicals, and is the author of 18 inventions, with two of them applied in agriculture.

He has supervised one ScD, eight PhD and 12 master students to completion.

He is the recipient of “Badge of Honor” Order, and “Merited Teacher” title. Qasim Huseynov is a member of D 01.031 Thesis Council under the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Y.H. Mammadaliyev, ANAS.
