Yusif  Yusibov was born on 20 April 1952. In 1968, he entered  Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating with honors in 1973. He then started his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Organic Chemistry named after Academician N.D. Zelinsky, USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1978, he defended a PhD thesis. He spent from 1978 to 1981 serving as a junior research fellow at the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry in the city of Moscow. From 1981 to 1997, he worked at Azerbaijan Agricultural Academy, and his appointments included an associate professor at the Department of Chemistry from 1981 to 1989.Yusif Yusibov obtained a ScD degree in 1993, and was made a professor in 1996. In 1995-1996, he served as a professor at the Department of Chemistry, serving as its head in 1996-1997. In 1997, he achieved professorship at the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry, BSU. He became vice-rector of Ganja State University in 2011, and has been its rector since 2014. He invented an electric power method with crystalline superionic electrolyte in the study of phase balance and thermodynamic qualities of triple semiconductor chalcogenide systems. His invention contributed to the establishment of physical and chemical fundamentals of the production of three-component chalcogenides of copper and silver. He has published two monographs, four education handbooks and nearly 100 papers. He has supervised one PhD student to completion.
