Malahat Qurbanova was born on 27 November 1972. In 1989, she entered  Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating in 1994. The same year she embarked on postgraduate studies at the Institute of the Chemistry of Admixtures after A.M. Quliyev, ANAS. She defended her PhD thesis in 1998, obtaining a ScD degree in 2009.

She was made a professor in 2010. Malahat Qurbanova started her research activity as an engineer at the Faculty of Chemistry, BSU, in 1997, later serving as a research fellow, senior research fellow and associate professor. She has headed BSU Electronic Learning Center since 2010.

Her major research areas include synthesis, structure and features of heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen, sulphur and oxygen. Malahat Qurbanova has published 155 papers, and two textbooks for higher schools. She is the author of nine authorship certificates. She has supervised one PhD and nine master students to completion.

She is now supervising four PhD students. Malahat Qurbanova sits on D 02.011 Thesis Council and chairs its Scientific Seminar.
