FIKRAT RZAQULU BABAYEV

Fikrat Babayev was born in 1943. He received his secondary education from 1950 to 1960. In 1966, he graduated from Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, where he was the holder of Lenin Stipend. The same year he embarked on postgraduate studies in organic chemistry. After completing his postgraduate education he served as a teaching assistant and associate professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry. From 1978 to 1993, he was employed as an associate professor and professor at the Department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology. From 1974 to 1977, he worked as dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and from 1987 to 1990 dean of the Training Department. In 1990-1991, he served as first Deputy Minister of Education, in 1991-1992 as vice-rector for international and economic relations at Azerbaijan Technical University. From 1992 to 2003, he chaired the Department of Chemistry, where has been a professor since 2003. In 1970, Fikrat Babayev defended a PhD thesis, and obtained a ScD degree in 1986. In 1988, he became a professor of petrochemistry. His research interests lie in geochemistry of oil and gas, oil heterocomponents, and distribution of isoprenoid hydrocarbons in oils in the South Caspian cavern. He has published three monographs, one textbook, six books, and more than 130 papers in local and foreign periodicals, including in CIS countries, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Bulgaria. Fikrat Babayev has been a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists since 1994. In 1997-1998, he served as editor-in-chief of international “Azerbaijani geologist” bulletin. From 2000 to 2006, he was editor of “Bilgi” journal (chemical, biological and medical series). He is the recipient of Republican Lenin Komsomol Award, and “Merited Higher Educational Worker” title.
