DAMIR HEYDAR QAMBAROV

Damir Qambarov was born on 26 November 1939. In 1958, he entered  Baku State University, graduating with honors in 1963. The same year he started his postgraduate education in analytical chemistry. In 1967, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 1984.

He was made a professor in 1985. After completing his postgraduate education he started his research and pedagogical activity at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, where he served as a laboratory assistant, teaching assistant, senior teacher, associate professor and professor. He chaired this department from 1979 to 2006.

From 1976 to 1979, he served as dean of the Faculty of Chemistry. From 1999 to 2006, Damir Qambarov chaired the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies, Research and Methodological Council, Ministry of Education. He sat on specialized thesis councils, and scientific councils of BSU and the university`s Faculty of Chemistry.

His research interests laid in synthesis of new organic reagents and their use in defining inorganic and organic substances.

He invented a new class organic reagents - mono- and bi-azo compounds in analytical chemistry through synthesizing them on the basis of pyrogallol. These reagents were used to work out photometric, luminescent and polarographic methodology for defining inorganic ions.

Damir Qambarov was the holder of over 30 multi-authorship certificates. He published more than 350 papers in local and foreign periodicals.

He supervised 12 PhD students to completion.

Apart from Azerbaijan, he trained highly-qualified specialists for foreign countries, including Vietnam, Egypt, Syria and Algeria. Damir Qambarov was the recipient of “Shohrat” Order.
