Abdulsayid Azizov was born on 1 May 1951. In 1968, he entered  Baku State University, Faculty of Chemistry, graduating in 1973. From 1973 to 1975, he served as a chemistry teacher at a local secondary school in Nohurgishlag village, Qabala district. From 1975 to 1978, he did postgraduate studies at Moscow Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis named after A.N. Topshiyev. He started his career at BSU in 1978, serving as a senior laboratory assistant, laboratory head, teacher and associate professor at the Department of Chemistry of Higher Molecular Compounds. In 1980, he defended a PhD thesis, and achieved a ScD degree in 2004. He has been a professor at the Department of Chemistry of Higher Molecular Compounds since 2004, and headed the Faculty of Chemistry since 2006. His research interests lie in chemical modification of polymers through chlorination and oxidizing, synthesis of polymer nanocomposites, and sorption regularities of heavy metal ions and toxic organic compounds. He has published nearly 160 papers and monographs, and also authored several methodological handbooks, textbooks and educational handbooks for higher schools. He is the holder of one certificate of authorship, four patents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and one international patent (USA). He has supervised two PhD and one ScD student to completion. Abdulsayid Azizov is the recipient of “Taraqqi” Medal.
